We see a naked woman kneeling at a pond, pouring water into the pond and onto the ground. From her left hand (symbolizing the subconscious mind) the water flows to the ground in five streams. Those can be seen to be the five senses of our physical existence.
She has one foot on the land, and the other on the water. This signifies the balance between the physical and the spiritual. Notice that her right foot is on the water, not in it. This is as contrasted by the angel in Temperance. In Temperance, the angel’s foot is clearly in the water.
Here the water is poured out freely, unlike the angel in Temperance, who is not releasing the water. Temperance holds back; the Star gives freely.
She is naked, showing that she has nothing to hide, nor anything to be ashamed of. All the humans from this point on are naked.
In the sky are several Stars. There is one large, eight-pointed Star, and seven smaller Stars, also with eight points. Eight corresponds to the number of this card. It is 17, but 1 + 7 = 8.
Some authors regard the seven smaller stars as representing the seven main chakras.
The Star symbolizes hope, spirituality, serenity, healing.
The Fool has been blasted out of his Tower, and is now in darkness, night-time. But the darkness is not total; the Fool can see some Stars out there, offering him a little light for guidance. He is not alone; he has not been forsaken. He may have been chastened, but it was not a punishment. It was a correction.
