Six of Pentacles

Two beggars crouch before a well-dressed man who hands out coins to one of them. He holds a scale in his left hand; evidently he measures out what he will give. It may be that he chooses only to give to one of the beggars, and not to the other. It may be that the scales symbolize his deciding who deserves charity and who does not.

Note the man’s hand position. His fingers are arranged in the same way as in the Papal blessing found in the Hierophant and the Ten of Swords. It is the sign of benediction.

This card looks as though it follows the Five of Pentacles; in that card, we are shown abject poverty. In this card we see someone trying to help.

In readings, it may not be clear exactly who the Querent is in this image. Is he the one doling out the money, or is he one of the beggars? We may be able to tell from the context. Sometimes he may be both.
